This album sums up all of the work we made over the past two years, from remote collaborations (tracks 1-7 & 16) to the glorious moment we could rejoin one another in the studio (tracks 8-15). It captures all of the quirks and imperfections of the pandemic. What we’ve created is a collection of songs recorded with the intent to spread joy and exuberance, to offer a celebration of spirit when the world seemed to have lost it. Out of necessity, the musicians learned new recording skills and made do with what they had at home. They recorded in basements, living rooms, and hotel rooms, across states and countries. What we captured are natural sounds that come from the heart, without autotune, polished editing, or state-of-the-art electronics. We never planned to make a record like this, and it’s doubtful we will ever again.

Each day I remind myself that we have so much to be thankful for now that we can laugh, hug, perform and truly be Together Again.

The laid-back groove of the Brooks Prumo Orchestra hits the sweet spot. This is fine swing without any try-hard hype. The studio mix is balanced, and it hops and slides like music should (unlike some other contemporary jazz). "Out of Nowhere" is outstanding: inspired arrangement, knockout playing, genuine emotion. The vocal numbers get better with every listen, and "Blue Lester" has about it a certain sunburn-on-your-skin mint julep nighttime ease. jakespatz
